Payments Engineering Business Analyst (Associate / Vice President) (Fintech)

What you will do

• Gather business and product requirements and translate them into technical specifications, system designs, and user stories.
• Analyze system dependencies, data models, APIs, and architecture to validate proposed payment solutions.
• Coordinate priorities and delivery across Payments Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Compliance, and business stakeholders.
• Provide payment-domain expertise covering transaction processing, ISO 20022, clearing networks, and global and domestic payment rails.
• Support scheme attestations, audits, compliance activities, and evidence collection for key payment rails.
• Drive Agile ceremonies, manage the technical backlog, and help unblock developers during implementation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3 years of experience as a technical business analyst, systems analyst, or techno-functional product professional in payments or financial technology.
• Strong understanding of SDLC, system architecture, APIs, data modeling, technical documentation, and system design discussions.
• Deep knowledge of payment processing, transaction lifecycles, ISO 20022, and global or domestic payment rails.
• Experience managing technical and non-technical stakeholders and bridging engineering and business needs.
• Practical experience with Agile methods, including Scrum or Kanban, Jira, and Confluence.

Nice to have

• Previous experience as a software developer or systems engineer.
• Familiarity with UK payment rails such as FPS, CHAPS, and BACS, plus scheme attestations or compliance audits.
• Experience with Finastra GPP, Volante, Fircosoft, AWS, or cloud-native payment architectures.
• Knowledge of PSD2/PSD3, Open Banking, AML, and sanctions screening.
• Interest in progressing toward technical leadership or people management.
