Senior Applied Engineer (AI): Deliver AI models for real-world physics and engineering problems, building physical foundation models and scaling training on multi-GPU cloud compute. Focus on translating research prototypes into robust, scalable implementations and integrating results into reusable libraries, tooling, and products.

What you will do
- Collaborate with research scientists, simulation engineers, customers, and partners to deliver AI models for real-world physics and engineering problems.
- Design and build physical foundation models, scaling model training efficiently on multi-GPU cloud compute.
- Turn research prototypes into robust, optimized implementations by challenging architecture decisions that hurt scalability.
- Select the best libraries, frameworks, and tools to enable successful model development and deployment.
- Own research work-streams at different levels depending on seniority.
- Translate research outputs into reusable libraries, tooling, and products, bridging data science and software engineering.
Requirements
- Strong interest in developing machine learning solutions, especially deep learning and/or probabilistic methods, plus supporting science/engineering software.
- Ability to work autonomously and scope effectively to deliver projects across multiple engineering domains.
- Strong problem-solving skills to analyze issues, identify causes, and recommend solutions quickly.
- Experience with scientific computing and/or high-performance computing (CPU/GPU clusters) and/or parallelized/distributed training for large/foundation models.
- Experience scaling and optimizing ML models and training/serving foundation models at scale (federated learning is a bonus).
- MSc or PhD in a relevant field (computer science, machine learning, applied statistics, mathematics, physics, engineering, or software engineering) or a closely related discipline.
