Senior Legal Counsel

TL;DR

Senior Legal Counsel (SaaS): Building and leading the legal function from scratch for a global user research platform with an accent on commercial contracting, data privacy, and corporate governance. Focus on enabling revenue growth, managing international legal risks, and establishing scalable legal processes in a fast-paced environment.

Location: Must be based in-person at our office in Brisbane, Australia.

What you will do

• Own and negotiate enterprise SaaS agreements including MSAs, DPAs, SLAs, and SOWs.
• Lead legal aspects of data protection and privacy across international jurisdictions including GDPR and CCPA.
• Support board governance, corporate housekeeping, and cap table management.
• Partner with Sales, Product, and Security teams to unblock deals and ensure compliance with SOC 2 and ISO standards.
• Build and maintain legal templates, playbooks, and lightweight processes from scratch.
• Manage external counsel and control legal spend as the primary legal point of contact.

Requirements

• Must be based in-person in Brisbane, Australia.
• Proven experience as in-house counsel at a scaling SaaS or tech company.
• Strong background in enterprise SaaS commercial contracting.
• Ability to operate as a sole legal contributor with comfort in ambiguity.
• Experience managing multi-jurisdictional data and cross-border transfer issues.
• Strong judgment to balance legal risk against business velocity.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated or data-heavy industries.
• Exposure to international expansion and cross-border legal operations.
• Previous experience at a commercial law firm.
