Studio Design Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Shanghai, China. Onsite; full-time presence at the Advanced Technical Center is required.

What you will do

• Create initial vehicle layout proposals for Advanced Design teams, considering planning input, competitive vehicles, and cost requirements.
• Lead engineering, packaging, and “what if” studies for next-generation vehicle programs and architectures.
• Integrate architectural criteria, bodyside development, vehicle layouts, proportions, seating properties, and design surfaces across digital, clay, and VR/MR models.
• Resolve packaging issues such as interferences, space violations, and performance conflicts by developing alternative solutions.
• Represent Design, Architecture, and Surface Integration in engineering and program meetings while coordinating stakeholders and escalating issues.
• Present engineering studies to senior leadership and support architecture development, GVDP deliverables, and collaboration with vehicle configuration and feasibility teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
• More than 7 years of combined experience in architecture, vehicle attributes, exterior or interior engineering, closures, or surface integration, preferably in a Design Studio environment.
• Extensive CAD capability using NX.
• Ability to prepare technical materials and presentations and influence cross-functional leadership at varying levels.
• Ability to work under demanding schedules, take initiative, and operate independently with limited supervision.
• Ability to influence peers and indirect team members without direct authority.

Nice to have

• Understanding of Studio deliverables within the GVDP process.
• Knowledge of global and local competitive vehicle landscapes.
• Experience optimizing vehicles at the vehicle level and balancing design and engineering requirements.
• Experience with driver accommodation, access, interior spaciousness, vision, storage, Pro-Dim comparisons, and General Arrangement drawings.
• Interior engineering experience with instrument panels, consoles, seats, and door panels.
