Early Career AI Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, California; hybrid

Base salary: $130,000–$150,000 per year for roles based in San Francisco and New York.

What you will do

• Prototype and ship AI-powered product improvements with a cross-functional team.
• Build model-powered features across user experience, APIs, retrieval, orchestration, quality, and reliability.
• Integrate new models or techniques into production workflows and add monitoring and guardrails.
• Improve model-serving latency, cost, safety, robustness, and reliability.
• Build evaluation sets and automated or human-in-the-loop testing, run experiments, and analyze results.
• Translate evaluation findings into product and system improvements.

Requirements

• Less than two years of engineering experience; this is not a new graduate role and requires immediate full-time availability.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• Experience exploring AI or machine learning through coursework, projects, internships, or hackathons.
• Ability to prototype and develop working features across UI, APIs, and data with guidance.
• Familiarity with relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL.
• Clear communication, proactive ownership, pragmatic problem-solving, and customer-minded judgment.

Nice to have

• Experience with React, TypeScript, Node, Postgres, or Elasticsearch.
• Interest in the relationship between technology and society.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development environments such as Cursor or Claude Code.
