Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Suzhou, China; based in the Suzhou office.

What you will do

• Lead mechanical engineering innovation, design, and development for evolutionary China-for-China products in personal workspace, human-interface devices, human-computer interaction, and emerging technology segments.
• Identify customer needs, create technology roadmaps, align stakeholders, and scout and develop mechanical engineering technologies.
• Lead feasibility studies, concept and architecture design, risk analysis, and verification to meet product goals, cost targets, and schedules.
• Provide mechanical engineering expertise for hardware specifications, design decisions, and issue investigation.
• Coordinate with suppliers and internal and external customers across specifications, design, prototyping, qualification, and mass production.
• Collaborate with product management, electrical, optical, acoustic, and other functions to deliver integrated product designs.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing and developing high-volume consumer electronic products, covering mechanical engineering and CMF.
• 2+ years of experience as a technical leader defining, planning, and monitoring technical or NPI projects.
• Self-motivated, passionate, and high-energy, with an end-user focus in technical and communication solutions.
• 3D and 2D CAD skills, including geometrical tolerance knowledge.
• Good written and spoken English communication skills.
• Proven expertise in mechanical structure development for plastic and metal parts, including strength, tolerancing, joining, reliability, drop testing, and vibration.
• Proven CMF development experience and in-depth knowledge of sustainable materials, processes, and technologies.
• Experience designing parts for plastic injection molding, compression molding, metal stamping, metal injection molding, die casting, metal extrusion, metal machining, and other manufacturing processes.
• In-depth design validation skills, including tolerance analysis, statistical analysis, FEA, FMEA, prototyping, failure analysis, 8D, PDCA, DMICA, problem-solving, and design of experiments.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Engineering, or an equivalent field.

Nice to have

• Multifunctional design skills covering mechanism design, electromechanical integration, and PCB mechanical design.
• Experience coaching junior engineers, providing technical direction or guidance, and managing mechanical engineering crises.
