TL;DR
Intermediate Backend Engineer (AI): Building and maintaining agentic tools for the GitLab monolith backend with an accent on designing systems that allow AI agents to interact with the software delivery lifecycle. What you will do
- Develop and maintain features for Agentic Tools within the GitLab monolith backend.
- Design and implement scalable GraphQL and REST APIs for AI agent interactions.
- Collaborate with product, UX, and AI specialists to refine requirements and deliver iterative enhancements.
- Improve automated testing frameworks, including RSpec, to ensure high code quality and reliability.
- Participate in Tier 2 on-call rotations to troubleshoot production issues and enhance system observability.
- Share architectural patterns and standards to promote responsible AI integration across the team.
Requirements
- Experience building and maintaining production applications with Ruby on Rails.
- Proficiency in designing or extending REST and GraphQL APIs with a focus on scalability.
- Strong practical experience working with AI tooling on a daily basis.
- SQL skills and familiarity with relational databases like PostgreSQL.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in an asynchronous, distributed, cross-functional environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and proposals.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Python backends or Vue frontends.
- Experience designing and shipping AI-powered backend features.
