Location: Hybrid; initially London/Birmingham, transitioning to be based in Bedford (must be in Bedford at least three days per week)

What you will do

• Lead the Roads & Bridges package from design and procurement through to construction, testing, and handover.
• Manage the planning and delivery of highways, bridges, earthworks, and drainage, adhering to DMRB and local authority standards.
• Coordinate complex interfaces with operational railways (Network Rail) and live highways (National Highways) to minimize disruption.
• Establish clear priorities, governance rhythms, and decision routes to ensure timely project delivery.
• Oversee procurement strategies, tender documentation, and contractor mobilisation.
• Identify and mitigate design, logistics, and commercial risks while ensuring safety and quality outcomes.

Requirements

• Proven experience delivering roads, highways, bridges, or major civil infrastructure projects.
• Experience working on complex multi-stakeholder programmes with statutory authority and utility interfaces.
• Practical understanding of UK highways delivery requirements (DMRB).
• Experience managing construction logistics in live highway and operational railway environments.
• Must be based in or able to work from Bedford at least three days per week.
• Degree in civil engineering, construction project management, or equivalent technical delivery experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with NEC forms of contract and major infrastructure governance.
• Professional membership in bodies such as APM, ICE, RICS, or CIOB.
