Staff Web Engineer (Legend)

Location: Menlo Park, CA or New York, NY; in-person attendance is expected at least 3 days per week.

Base pay: $180,000–$270,000 USD per year, depending on compensation zone and location. Additional bonus opportunities, equity, and benefits are available.

What you will do

• Lead web performance across the Legend trading platform through profiling, diagnosis, and measurable optimization.
• Optimize JavaScript execution, browser rendering pipelines, runtime efficiency, and real-time data handling.
• Build high-frequency real-time UI components that render streaming market data while maintaining a consistent frame rate.
• Establish performance benchmarks, monitoring systems, engineering standards, and documentation.
• Contribute to end-to-end feature development across core trading surfaces.
• Partner with product, design, and backend engineering to deliver reliable experiences and plan technical work.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience building web applications, including products where performance was a hard requirement.
• Deep expertise in JavaScript and TypeScript, including JavaScript engine internals, memory management, and garbage collection.
• Hands-on experience profiling and optimizing layout, paint, and compositing, and diagnosing jank, long tasks, and main-thread contention.
• Experience building and optimizing high-frequency real-time interfaces that render streaming data while maintaining frame rate.
• Fluency with Chrome DevTools, Performance/Lighthouse, flame charts, Core Web Vitals, or comparable runtime metrics.

Nice to have

• Experience with Canvas, Web Workers, WebSockets, or similar technologies.
