Software Engineer, Spend (Fintech)

Location: Melbourne, Australia; this role is based in Melbourne

What you will do

• Design and implement scalable, secure backend services powering the Cards and Spend products.
• Build services for tracking, reconciling, and accounting for spend transactions.
• Own features end to end, from technical design and implementation through production operation.
• Contribute to backend architecture, observability, API design, reliability, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, design, and engineering teams.
• Provide technical mentorship and support engineering quality improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience designing and building production backend systems and APIs.
• Strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and distributed systems.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python.
• Experience with REST API design, backend frameworks, cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP, and container orchestration such as Kubernetes.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or Splunk.
