Staff Engineer, Flight Controls - X-BAT (Aerospace)

Location: Dallas, Texas; on-site

Salary: $180,000–$280,000 per year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for regular employees.

What you will do

• Design and implement flight control laws and supporting logic across multiple flight regimes.
• Build and mature high-fidelity, time-accurate 6DOF simulation environments for control development and pre-flight performance prediction.
• Execute linear, nonlinear, Monte Carlo, sensitivity, disturbance, degraded-operation, and HIL verification activities.
• Diagnose simulation-to-test mismatches, unidentified dynamics, and modeling gaps.
• Support flight test planning and operations, envelope expansion, test-point selection, and rapid iteration between flights.
• Collaborate with propulsion, aerodynamics, actuation, sensors, state estimation, and autonomy teams; mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in flight controls or GNC on real flight vehicles, with contributions from design through test.
• Experience with aircraft vehicle modeling, flight dynamics, control-law design, control allocation, guidance integration, or flight-control verification.
• Experience with 6DOF simulation, system identification, flight-data analysis, model refinement, and flight-control updates.
• Experience with flight-test planning, envelope expansion strategy, and test-point selection.
• Proficiency in C++, MATLAB/Simulink, and/or Python.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance; ability to obtain an S//SAR-level clearance is desired.

Nice to have

• Autonomous systems or missile/UAV GNC experience.
• Experience with sensor and air-data systems, NPSS propulsion models, HIL or integrated simulation/test environments, Linux, Git, CI/CD, and DevSecOps.
• Experience working in rapid development environments with tight simulation-to-test iteration loops.
