TL;DR

Staff Backend Engineer (Fintech): Designing and building critical backend architecture and secure data pipelines for a new retirement account platform with an accent on cross-functional integrations and regulatory compliance. Location: Must be based in New York, NY; Hybrid (3 days per week in-office). Restricted to US citizens or lawful permanent residents.

Salary: $230,000–$270,000 USD (Zone 1)

What you will do

  • Lead the technical design and architectural strategy for a standalone backend infrastructure.
  • Design secure data pipelines and robust APIs for integration with government registries and banking partners.
  • Guide engineering teams across the brokerage ecosystem to foster technical excellence and high code standards.
  • Partner with Product, Security, and Legal teams to navigate complex compliance protocols.
  • Own backend stability and performance tuning for high-volume user rollouts.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a track record at the principal or staff level.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python or Go for building distributed infrastructure.
  • Deep expertise in domain modeling, microservices, and reliable API orchestration.
  • Proven execution in 0-to-1 product environments with high technical ambiguity.
  • Must be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident due to legal requirements.
