TL;DR
Senior Scientific Software Engineer (Quantum Computing): Building and optimizing high-performance software components, simulation kernels, and environments for quantum chip simulations with an accent on scientific computing, software architecture, and scalable simulation workflows. Focus on orchestrating simulation pipelines, supporting CPU/GPU HPC execution, and developing robust tools in collaboration with quantum scientists and researchers.

Location: Paris, France; hybrid workplace. Flexible remote work is available for up to 40% of the month.

Alice & Bob is a French startup developing a universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer based on superconducting Schrödinger cat qubits.

What you will do

  • Architect, implement, and optimize high-performance scientific software components and simulation kernels.
  • Develop and evolve the simulation environment for integrating, orchestrating, and executing quantum chip simulations.
  • Establish software quality, testing, code review, and maintainability best practices.
  • Support simulation studies and execute scientific simulation pipelines.
  • Promote simulation tools across the organization, gather user feedback, and contribute to the tooling roadmap.
  • Collaborate with quantum scientists, researchers, and cross-functional colleagues.

Requirements

  • PhD or Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Scientific Computing, Quantum Physics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience, including at least 2 years in an industrial environment.
  • Professional proficiency in Python and JAX, with strong software engineering skills.
  • Experience with Git/GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code review, and maintainable software practices.
  • Experience with scientific computing ecosystems such as NumPy, SciPy, JAX, PETSc, or equivalent, and familiarity with CPU/GPU HPC environments.
  • Hands-on experience running simulations or using scientific simulation software such as Ansys, COMSOL, or similar. Professional-level English, written and spoken, is required.

Nice to have

  • Rust proficiency.
  • Background in quantum physics or a related domain.
  • Experience using LLM-powered tools in professional software engineering.
  • Strong delivery, teamwork, communication, and documentation skills.
