What you will do

• Lead the development of an end-to-end simulation-based “virtual driver’s test” to identify critical software faults.
• Oversee operations and administration of the evaluation system to support software deployment schedules.
• Improve signal quality of the virtual tests to ensure they predict real-world driving behavior.
• Align system design with broader release simulation and evaluation infrastructure.
• Apply and contribute to ML models to optimize the efficiency of simulating and reporting interesting situations.
• Partner with Data Science and Systems Engineering to understand Waymo Driver internals.

Requirements

• 7+ years of full-time software engineering experience (or a quantitative PhD with 2+ years professional experience).
• Proficiency in C++.
• Familiarity with Python and SQL.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be based in or able to work on-site in Tokyo or Mountain View.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of industry experience.
• 2+ years as a technical lead in a quantitative- or quality-focused engineering role.
• B.S. in Computer Science.
• Experience with FAANG-scale distributed systems.
• Experience building software reliability evaluation systems.
