Senior Manager, Data Science (Gamedev)

Location: 100% remote; work from anywhere. Significant overlap with the Pacific Time Zone is required.

What you will do

• Own high-impact data science initiatives across product data science and fair play.
• Create algorithms, machine-learning models, and data-powered features that improve the chess experience.
• Design and deploy heuristics, algorithms, and models to identify cheating at scale.
• Partner with product managers, engineers, designers, and writers to turn data and algorithms into product decisions.
• Manage a lean team of data scientists, set objectives, establish quality standards, and support professional growth.
• Communicate findings, progress, and blockers proactively across a fully remote organization.

Requirements

• 5+ years of data science experience developing algorithms and models and delivering shipped features.
• Strong Python and SQL skills, with experience using BigQuery and GCP or similar large-scale cloud data infrastructure.
• Solid machine-learning fundamentals, including anomaly detection and models supporting chess learning.
• Experience with agentic workflows and tools such as Cursor or Claude Code.
• Ability to communicate findings to technical peers and senior non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience managing or meaningfully mentoring data scientists or analysts, plus deep familiarity with chess and cheating detection.

Nice to have

• Experience with data science for consumer gaming or entertainment platforms.
• Experience working in lean, high-ownership environments.
