What you will do

• Lead the development of major game features and backend systems.
• Provide technical direction and hands-on programming, primarily using PHP.
• Mentor and manage a team of server developers, guiding their professional growth.
• Design and implement clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
• Collaborate with project leadership to define deliverables and technical vision.
• Maintain secure, reliable online services across cloud and on-prem environments.

Requirements

• Must be based in or able to relocate to Cambridge, UK.
• Extensive experience with object-oriented programming in dynamically typed languages like PHP, Python, or TypeScript.
• Proven track record in developing high-performance, high-availability distributed server systems.
• Strong experience with Linux systems administration and open-source infrastructure components.
• Expertise in people management and technical leadership.
• Experience handling non-coding technical aspects like branch management and bug triaging.

Nice to have

• Experience working with game engines and shipping cross-platform titles on consoles.
• Knowledge of networking and security systems (TCP/UDP, Routing, NAT, Firewalls).
• Programming experience in compiled languages such as C++, C#, Go, or Rust.
• Experience with distributed database architectures.
