What you will do

• Set the architectural direction for the e-commerce frontend, including rendering, state, routing, and build tooling.
• Develop a modern frontend foundation from scratch for an audience of 100M+ people without legacy constraints.
• Own frontend performance end-to-end, optimizing core web vitals to directly increase conversion rates.
• Define standards, patterns, and guardrails for product engineers and drive their adoption across teams.
• Lead critical architectural decisions via RFCs and design reviews, building consensus among senior engineers.
• Mentor the engineering organization and serve as the escalation point for complex reliability and architecture problems.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in modern JavaScript, TypeScript, and React, including rendering models and large-scale architecture.
• Proven experience owning framework- or platform-level frontend architecture at scale (typically 15+ years).
• Track record of shipping design systems or shared platforms used by multiple engineering teams.
• Ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in high-traffic funnels.
• Must be based in or able to relocate to the Bay Area or NYC.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-traffic e-commerce or marketplace frontends.
• Proficiency with monorepo tooling such as Vite, Turbopack, Bazel, or Nx.
• Knowledge of edge rendering strategies.
• Public presence through technical talks, open source contributions, or writing.
