Location: New York City, New York (Financial District) — work in the office 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)

Salary: $310,000–$385,000

What you will do

• Own reliability, performance, and security of Garner’s AWS cloud infrastructure, including platform uptime, incident response, and operational excellence.
• Define and execute the cloud infrastructure squad roadmap, prioritizing investments across Kubernetes, Terraform, Istio, Postgres, NATS, and observability tooling.
• Lead and develop infrastructure engineers: hire, set expectations, provide rigorous feedback, and hold the team accountable to high standards.
• Partner with product engineering, data engineering, and security to enable fast, safe, and scalable delivery across the organization.
• Establish and monitor reliability and performance metrics (SLOs, SLAs, error budgets) and use data to continuously improve platform quality.
• Manage quarterly planning and delivery for the squad, coordinating dependencies and escalating tradeoffs proactively.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on cloud infrastructure or platform engineering experience, including 2+ years in an engineering management role leading cloud-based infrastructure teams.
• Deep expertise with AWS and modern infrastructure tooling, including Kubernetes and Terraform; working familiarity with Istio, Postgres, and NATS.
• Proven track record building and scaling reliable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud platforms, including setting/managing SLOs/SLAs and driving incident response processes.
• Strong people management skills, including hiring, candid developmental feedback, and building a culture of ownership and high standards.
• Excellent cross-functional communication skills to articulate technical tradeoffs clearly to both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to balance engineering velocity with reliability and security, and to cut through complexity and ambiguity.
