HMI Software Engineer (Qt)

TL;DR

HMI Software Engineer (Qt/C++): Designing and implementing human-machine interface solutions for defense vehicle and system applications with an accent on translating complex requirements into production-intent software. Focus on developing HMI applications in Linux environments, integrating with embedded controllers, and executing within an Agile CI/CD pipeline.

Location: Hybrid in Milford, Michigan (at least 3 days/week). Candidate must be a U.S. Person (Citizen, Permanent Resident, Asylee, or Refugee).

What you will do

• Design and implement HMI software solutions for GM Defense vehicles and system applications.
• Collaborate with the Design Studio and program teams to define HMI concepts, workflows, and feature behavior.
• Develop production-intent HMI applications using Qt and related frameworks in a Linux-based environment.
• Support software architecture, code implementation, and debugging for display and operator-interface features.
• Execute software development in an Agile CI/CD environment using disciplined version control and release practices.
• Work cross-functionally with cybersecurity, controls, and integration teams to ensure robust end-to-end solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience in software development for embedded, application, or user-interface systems.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, or similar object-oriented programming languages.
• Experience working in a Linux-based development environment with Qt or similar HMI frameworks.
• Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee).
• Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis.

Nice to have

• Experience designing HMI workflows for complex systems.
• Familiarity with vehicle electrical architecture and communication protocols.
• Experience operating in classified, export-controlled, or highly restricted development environments.
• Ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance.
