What you will do

• Own the structure of legal knowledge and define capture requirements for different matter types across products.
• Build and run evaluation harnesses to define and prove the quality of legal AI work products and agent outputs.
• Develop a legal skill strategy by authoring and validating executable domain knowledge for AI agents.
• Establish a coherent semantic layer by bringing in practice-area ontologies and document typologies.
• Hire and lead a small team of legal engineers while remaining a hands-on individual contributor.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Design teams as the substantive legal authority for agentic product decisions.

Requirements

• Law degree and 1–3 years of experience as a practicing attorney in a firm or corporate legal department.
• Fluency with modern AI development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) and comfort working in repositories/GitHub.
• Deep understanding of legal reasoning, matter lifecycles, and substantive quality in legal work product.
• Ability to operate as a high-autonomy leader in a super-IC capacity.
• Must be based in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience building or evaluating legal AI products at a legal tech company or law firm.
• Familiarity with legal taxonomies and standards such as FOLIO.
• Published work or open-source contributions within the legal engineering or AI ecosystem.
• Experience designing benchmark datasets or quality measurement systems for domain-specific AI.
