Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO)

Location: Remote, United States; Pacific Time Zone availability required, with Southern California strongly preferred. US work authorization required.

Salary: USD $200,000–$250,000 base salary annually, excluding incentives.

What you will do

• Own the multi-year product and technology roadmap, product management discipline, prioritization, and release planning.
• Lead an AI-first development transformation and define practical, explainable AI capabilities for district staff productivity, data quality, and compliance confidence.
• Lead approximately eight direct reports across development and database administration, building team structure, engineering standards, accountability, and release cadence.
• Own architecture and deployment strategy across cloud, hybrid, and on-premise environments, including tenant isolation, security, reliability, and managed services.
• Drive modernization of a platform with a significant VB.NET legacy while protecting mission-critical operations and customer experience.
• Partner with the CEO, Customer Success, district stakeholders, the Michigan consortium, Sales, Marketing, Banyan’s AI team, and the internal AI Council.

Requirements

• Active AI-first development capability and experience leading an engineering team through AI transformation.
• Strong depth in infrastructure, architecture, platform operations, and legacy modernization.
• Experience with hybrid, on-premise, or district-managed deployments.
• Product leadership skills, including commercial roadmap development and formal product management practices.
• Experience building structure and cohesion in small, complex organizations and managing change within long-tenured teams.
• US work authorization and ability to work Pacific Time are required.

Nice to have

• K–12 software or EdTech experience, especially public-school district procurement, funding, and implementation.
• VB.NET familiarity and experience modernizing legacy technology without disrupting mission-critical customers.
• Experience working at companies with fewer than 200 employees.
