Creature Technical Director (Rigging): Developing and maintaining complex character and creature rigs in Maya for high-end VFX and animated features with an accent on realistic and toon-style animation. Focus on troubleshooting pipeline issues, optimizing rig performance, and mentoring junior artists within a collaborative studio environment.

Location: Must be based in or able to work onsite in Vancouver, Canada (Hybrid: 2-3 days onsite).

Salary: C$100,300–C$128,300 per year.

What you will do

• Perform hero-creature rigging and enveloping in Maya.
• Troubleshoot rigging and pipeline issues for artists across disciplines.
• Mentor entry-level artists and provide technical guidance.
• Script utilities, tools, and plug-ins to enhance workflow efficiency.
• Optimize rig performance for complex animation requirements.
• Participate in reviews, dailies, and department meetings.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional VFX experience with a relevant diploma, or 5+ years of experience in lieu of education.
• Expertise in hero asset rigging and enveloping in Maya.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy and corrective sculpting.
• Proficiency with Linux and Maya.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative team-player mindset.
• Ability to work onsite in Vancouver as required by the hybrid policy.

Nice to have

• Experience with Houdini and simulation shot work.
• Basic competency in modeling, texture, or animation.
• Experience with Python scripting.
