What you will do

• Characterise hydrophobicity and conduct volumetric and liquid-recovery studies.
• Investigate surface modification techniques to engineer low-retention polypropylene surfaces.
• Evaluate the performance impact of surface changes through controlled testing and contact angle measurement.
• Support the documentation of new test methods and contribute to technical cases for adoption.
• Apply laboratory science within an industrial quality context to develop next-generation consumables.

Requirements

• Studying towards or recently completed a BSc or MChem in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Hands-on laboratory experience from university practicals, placements, or independent research.
• Strong attention to detail and understanding of measurement accuracy and repeatability.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for recording and analysing data.
• Must be based in or able to work on-site in Cambridge, UK.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with volumetric/gravimetric analysis or precision liquid-handling techniques.
• Understanding of polymer chemistry and liquid–surface interactions (wetting, surface tension).
• Exposure to quality frameworks such as ISO 9001:2015, ISO 13485, or GMP/GLP environments.
• Experience with statistical process control (SPC), control charts, or capability analysis.
