What you will do

• Own and drive the data estate using Postgres, GCP, BigQuery, and Looker.
• Establish data governance patterns, conventions, and classification frameworks.
• Collaborate with product engineers on application database schema decisions to ensure data quality at the source.
• Translate business problems into technical data insights, shifting the culture toward problem-solving rather than simple data requests.
• Enforce least-privilege access and ensure compliant handling of sensitive learner and employer data.
• Balance immediate pragmatic fixes with long-term strategic architectural design.

Requirements

• Expertise in Postgres, including schema design, query optimisation, and production migrations.
• Hands-on experience with GCP core services: Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, IAM, and networking.
• Proficiency in BigQuery for data warehousing, mirroring pipelines, and performance tuning.
• Ability to manage a dashboard estate end-to-end using Looker or equivalent BI tooling.
• Strong instinct for data modelling (aggregation, denormalisation) and practical data governance.
• Must be based in the UK.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with UK GDPR and DPA 2018, especially in regulated or learner-facing contexts.
• Experience with dbt, Airflow, or similar pipeline tooling.
• Experience designing data contracts between application engineering and analytics layers.
• Background in edtech or other regulated sectors.
