TL;DR
Scientist 2/3 (Nuclear Engineering): Leading the development and realization of polymer components for the W93/Mk7 weapon system with an accent on product realization and coordination across the Nuclear Security Enterprise. Location: Onsite in Los Alamos, NM. US citizenship is required.

What you will do
- Lead the Product Realization Team (PRT) responsible for developing and realizing polymer components of the W93/Mk7.
- Coordinate design and development efforts within LANL and collaborate with production agencies such as the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC).
- Manage requirements, interfaces, and execution to ensure the delivery of producible, Mark Quality designs and products.
- Interface with internal LANL organizations, external production agencies, and customers (DoD, NNSA) to report status and accomplish activities.
- For Scientist 3: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff and perform cross-cutting work across multiple polymer PRTs.
Requirements
- US citizenship is strictly required.
- Ability to obtain or hold an Active Q Clearance (or equivalent DoD clearance).
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 4+ years of experience (for Scientist 2) or a Master's degree in a STEM field with 6+ years of experience (for Scientist 3).
- Demonstrated experience in technical R&D, including hypothesis testing and formulating technical solutions.
- Ability to solve complex problems with multiple variables using unconventional methods.
- Willingness to travel domestically to DOE sites (approximately 20%).
Nice to have
- Experience with nuclear weapon system design and engineering, specifically US Navy systems.
- Degree in chemistry, polymer science, or material science and engineering.
- Knowledge of GD&T and ability to interpret engineering drawings and interfaces.
- Understanding of requirements engineering and material interactions (polymer aging/compatibility).
- Familiarity with the Defense Programs Business Process System (DPBPS).
