Staff Software Engineer (Fintech)

TL;DR

Staff Software Engineer (Backend/Fintech): Designing and scaling a global lending platform to enable rapid deployment of financial products across multiple geographies with an accent on event-driven architecture and platform scalability. Focus on building shared infrastructure, defining long-term technical direction, and implementing CQRS and event-sourcing patterns.

Location: Hybrid (2-3 times/week) in Toronto (Canada) or São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Campinas, or Belo Horizonte (Brazil)

What you will do

• Define and evolve the architectural vision for the Global Lending Foundations platform to support global expansion.
• Design and scale shared platform capabilities and integration patterns that multiple lending teams depend on.
• Lead cross-team architectural initiatives and drive alignment on critical technical choices across squads.
• Refine event-oriented architectures, applying CQRS and event-driven patterns across different regulatory contexts.
• Collaborate with product and business leadership to translate expansion plans into technical roadmaps.
• Mentor senior engineers and raise the engineering bar through design reviews and technical guidance.

Requirements

• Extensive experience as a senior or staff-level engineer designing complex distributed systems or platform layers.
• Deep expertise in event-oriented architectures, including CQRS, event sourcing, and streaming.
• Strong background in at least one functional or JVM-based stack.
• Proven track record of owning architectural vision for large domains and bringing clarity to evolving requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to drive alignment on hard architectural decisions among senior technical stakeholders.
• Experience as a platform-oriented engineer where primary customers are other engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Experience in lending, credit, or financial services platforms.
• Background working in multi-country or global product environments.
• Prior experience leading large-scale migration or re-platforming initiatives.
• Familiarity with Clojure, Datomic, and Kafka.
