Location: Must be based in Australia or New Zealand (Hybrid or Remote options available).

What you will do

  • Coach and develop a team of 14 engineers, fostering a high-performance and inclusive culture.
  • Define the technical strategy and roadmap for a Tier 0 database control plane.
  • Drive engineering excellence in system design, observability, and incident response.
  • Partner with Product and Architecture teams to align on priorities and technical direction.
  • Ensure high availability and seamless orchestration of data migrations at global scale.
  • Represent technical strategy and operational risks to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years in engineering management (10+ direct reports).
  • Deep expertise in large-scale distributed systems and PostgreSQL.
  • Proven experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Track record of delivering complex, high-availability production systems.
  • Experience orchestrating fleet-wide data migrations or schema changes.
  • Must be based in Australia or New Zealand to support the distributed team.

Nice to have

  • Experience operating database-as-a-service (DBaaS) platforms.
  • Familiarity with control plane design patterns like reconciliation loops and declarative APIs.
  • Background in SRE practices and operational maturity for Tier 0 services.
  • Proficiency in Go, Java, or Kotlin.
