TL;DR
Junior Backend Engineer (Python): Supporting the development and improvement of backend services and APIs for an automotive digital payments platform with an accent on reliability, scalability, and performance. Focus on building high-performing applications, optimizing SQL database performance, and collaborating in an Agile environment.
Location: Hybrid (UK). Must be based in the UK and able to work at least 3 days per week from the Sheffield or London (Hammersmith) offices. Right to work in the UK is required; no visa sponsorship available.

What you will do
- Develop, maintain, and improve backend services and APIs to power product offerings.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve system issues to ensure stability.
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver scalable features.
- Write clean, secure, and well-documented code following industry best practices.
- Monitor and optimize application performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Participate in code reviews and Agile ceremonies including stand-ups and sprint planning.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience developing backend systems in a production environment.
- 2+ years of experience with Python and Django/Flask.
- Knowledge of SQL databases and experience with performance optimization.
- Understanding of software design principles and REST APIs.
- Proficiency in Git and version control best practices.
- Must already have the right to work in the UK; this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Nice to have
- Experience working in fintech, payments, e-commerce, or automotive sectors.
- Experience working with ALM tools.
