Focus on optimizing laser joining productivity, cost, and quality, and conducting extensive laboratory validation testing.

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan (reporting to location at least 3 times a week)

Salary: $80,200 – $125,900

What you will do

• Support production laser welding and brazing operations remotely and in-person across the US, Canada, and Mexico.
• Implement new laser technologies from the engineering phase through prototype builds and production launch.
• Define and execute validation testing in GM Labs and supplier facilities to verify industry standards.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Architects and Product Interface Engineers to review new laser welding designs.
• Develop improved laser welding processes and equipment utilizing Advanced Technology Work processes.
• Create technical reports and specifications (SOR) for laser welding systems to improve productivity and quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Weld Engineering.
• 5-10 years of experience in manufacturing or welding engineering.
• 5+ years of specialized experience with high power laser welding technology.
• Ability to travel internationally, including to Canada and Mexico.
• Must not require immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, and Teamcenter.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in Fanuc robot programming.
• Experience with laser optics such as Trumpf PFO, Highyag RLSK, and Scansonic ALO3/4.
• Knowledge of CAD programs including AutoCAD and Siemens NX.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
• Experience with body shop launch and plant-floor operations.
