What you will do

• Investigate emerging wireless capabilities to improve network performance, efficiency, and flexibility.
• Explore the use of Wi-Fi and cellular systems for practical spatial awareness and radio-based sensing.
• Perform modelling, simulation, and lab-based hypothesis testing for technologies like MIMO and active antenna systems.
• Develop and lead proof-of-concept activities to validate technical feasibility and service value.
• Conduct radio channel measurements and contribute to field trials.
• Collaborate with vendors, universities, and internal stakeholders to bridge the gap between research and commercial propositions.

Requirements

• Solid understanding of wireless communication principles, including PHY/MAC layers and cellular/Wi-Fi systems.
• Practical experience with radio hardware, lab testing, and prototyping or proof-of-concept development.
• Grounding in digital signal processing, radio propagation, array theory, or RF systems.
• Ability to make sound technical judgements considering commercial and deployment constraints.
• Must be based in or be able to work from Ipswich or Bristol, UK.

Nice to have

• Programming and data analysis experience in Python, MATLAB, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
• Knowledge of 3GPP (RAN1/RAN4), IEEE 802.11, or Wi-Fi Alliance standards.
• Experience with wireless sensing, radar, or localisation techniques.
• Ability to utilize agentic AI workflows to accelerate routine research tasks.
