Senior Database Reliability Engineer (PostgreSQL)

TL;DR

Senior Database Reliability Engineer (PostgreSQL/RabbitMQ): Building and optimizing self-service infrastructure foundations for relational data and messaging with an accent on PostgreSQL golden paths and RabbitMQ operations. Focus on automating provisioning, upgrades, and observability using CloudNativePG, Kubernetes, and IaC.

Location: Hybrid (up to 50% remote), must be based in Liège, Belgium

What you will do

• Own the PostgreSQL golden path on CloudNativePG, managing provisioning, upgrades, backup/restore, HA, and replication as code.
• Operate RabbitMQ clustering and routing to build reusable messaging patterns for product engineers.
• Build self-service capabilities with guardrails to eliminate database and messaging bottlenecks.
• Translate security and compliance standards (ISO27001) into technical capability flavors.
• Implement and maintain telemetry using Datadog to ensure reliability is measurable.
• Mentor peers on Kubernetes-stateful patterns and raise the bar for automation and operational rigor.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience operating PostgreSQL in production at scale (HA, replication, performance tuning).
• At least 2 years in a platform or IaC-oriented role.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes for stateful workloads (operators, storage, lifecycle).
• Proficiency with Terraform and Ansible for infrastructure automation.
• Experience with CI/CD and GitOps pipelines using Git and GitLab CI.
• Working knowledge of cybersecurity standards such as ISO27001.

Nice to have

• Strong production RabbitMQ operations experience (clustering, routing, HA).
• Experience with CloudNativePG (CNPG).
• Operating PostgreSQL in regulated environments like gaming, finance, or health.
• Experience with MongoDB or MongoDB Atlas operations.
• Software development background in Python or Go for tooling.
