What you will do

• Investigate how vision language models and multimodal LLMs support explanation in situated conversational settings.
• Research mechanistic interpretability of multimodal models and concept-based explanations grounded in affect and behavior theory.
• Develop interactive systems supporting real-time dialogue and user questioning for deployment in immersive environments.
• Perform multimodal sensing using vision, audio, and physiological signals.
• Collaborate within the Interactive Intelligence Group and the Hybrid Intelligence Centre consortium.

Requirements

• PhD degree (or expected before joining) in Generative AI, Machine Learning, Affective Computing, or HCI.
• Relevant track record in collaborative AI, interaction design, or experimental design.
• Interest in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of AI and human behavior.
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive attitude for multidisciplinary teamwork.
• Must be able to relocate to the Netherlands.
