Senior Software Development Engineer, AWS RDS SQL Server

What you will do

• Design and build reliable control, monitoring, replication, and failover systems for AWS RDS for SQL Server.
• Lead solutions through the full lifecycle, from problem definition and architecture through implementation and operations.
• Address complex distributed systems, performance, timing, state-machine, scaling, and disaster-recovery challenges.
• Collaborate across teams and geographies, align stakeholders, and communicate technical direction to senior leadership.
• Review architectures, unblock engineers, mentor team members, and drive operational excellence.
• Balance near-term delivery with scalable, maintainable solutions and resolve escalations.

Requirements

• Experience mentoring, serving as a tech lead, or leading an engineering team.
• Experience leading architecture and design for new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
• Professional programming experience in at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C#, with object-oriented design.
• Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, architecture, code reviews, source control, continuous deployment, testing, and operations.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
• Additional experience with software development lifecycle practices, build processes, testing, and operations.
