TL;DR

Location: Hybrid in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada

What you will do

  • Design electrical sub-modules and contribute to the overall systems engineering of next-generation robots.
  • Develop PCB layouts for analog, digital, and power circuits, including control boards and motor control units.
  • Collaborate with mechanical teams on wiring harness design to minimize EMI and ensure proper shielding.
  • Execute Functional Safety Management (FSM) plans in compliance with IEC 61508, IEC 63327, and IEC 60335-2-72.
  • Perform Hazard Analysis & Risk Assessments (HARA), FMEA, and Component FMEDAs.
  • Develop and execute Verification & Validation (V&V) strategies, including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Fault Injection Tests (FIT).

Requirements

  • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent degree.
  • Minimum 7+ years of hardware design experience in Robotics, Safety Critical, Medical, Aerospace, or Automotive fields.
  • Expertise in the full hardware development cycle, including PCB layout and design for manufacturing.
  • Proficiency with standard test equipment (DMM, Scope, Power Supply, Function Generator).
  • Deep understanding of functional safety metrics such as MTTFd and Diagnostic Coverage.
  • Must be located in or able to work in Kitchener, Ontario.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS) and Linux-based OS.
  • Proficiency with the Mentor Graphics suite of tools for electronics design simulation.
  • Experience with standards certifications such as UL, CSA, or CE.
  • Prior experience operating or servicing industrial floor cleaning equipment.
