TL;DR

Lap Time Simulation Engineer (Automotive): Designing and analyzing simulations to support performance vehicle development with an accent on lap time studies and vehicle content decisions. Focus on building and correlating CarSim models and Simulink-based frameworks to optimize track performance.

Location: Hybrid in Milford, Michigan (at least 3 days per week). Not eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

  • Execute lap time simulation studies to support track performance development and content decisions.
  • Build, update, and correlate CarSim vehicle simulation models and Simulink-based framework components.
  • Collaborate with Vehicle Performance Owners and cross-functional partners to gather inputs for analysis.
  • Analyze simulation outputs and provide clear recommendations to team leaders and customers.
  • Coordinate with driver-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop groups for integrated virtual assessments.
  • Support the continuous improvement of simulation methods, tools, and workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field.
  • Strong theoretical knowledge of vehicle dynamics, controls, modeling, and simulation.
  • Ability to apply engineering processes to identify issues and propose practical solutions.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate test vehicles.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US and be based in Milford, Michigan.

Nice to have

  • Experience with CarSim, Matlab/Simulink, or similar engineering modeling tools.
  • Experience with testing, validation, or data acquisition instrumentation.
  • Hands-on experience in motorsports, Formula SAE, or SCCA fabrication.
  • Understanding of control theory and major automotive subsystems.
