Sr. Software Engineer, Backend (Fintech)

TL;DR

Senior Backend Engineer (JVM/Fintech): Designing and evolving the NT Connect API-based brokerage integration layer to power connections with partners and third-party platforms with an accent on scalability, reliability, and low-latency performance. Focus on architecting RESTful/WebSocket APIs, deploying to Kubernetes/GCP, and integrating AI coding agents into the development workflow.

Location: Hybrid in Chicago, IL (Not open to remote candidates)

Salary: $100,000 - $150,000 USD + 10% annual target bonus

What you will do

• Design and maintain high-quality backend services for the NT Connect brokerage API platform.
• Architect RESTful and WebSocket APIs for introducing brokers, fintech partners, and third-party platforms.
• Deploy and manage services in a Kubernetes/GCP environment with a focus on resilience and observability.
• Implement robust monitoring and logging solutions using OpenTelemetry.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end solutions meeting compliance and business goals.
• Utilize AI coding agents (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) to accelerate delivery and improve code quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of software development experience with distributed backend systems in high-performance environments.
• Strong proficiency in JVM-based languages (Scala, Java, or Kotlin).
• Proven experience building RESTful APIs and WebSocket services for B2B platforms.
• Experience with Kubernetes and GCP infrastructure.
• Must be based in Chicago, IL to follow the hybrid schedule (In-office Tuesday through Thursday).

Nice to have

• Familiarity with financial systems (orders, fills, margin, KYC/AML workflows).
• Experience with FIX protocol, market data feeds, or brokerage integration patterns.
• Background in multi-tenant SaaS platform architectures and API rate limiting.
• Experience with Pub/Sub messaging systems (e.g., GCP Pub/Sub).
• Familiarity with Node.js for API integration or SDK work.
