What you will do

• Build and scale backend systems supporting core product features like Chat, Reviews, and Library.
• Design low-latency, high-reliability search, inference, and orchestration layers for AI features.
• Operate RAG retrieval at scale with production-grade performance and data isolation.
• Own core platform concerns including rate limiting, retries, consistency, and safe degradation.
• Partner with Product and Design to balance latency, accuracy, and reliability.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident response to improve system stability.

Requirements

• Must be based in Canada
• 5+ years of experience building backend systems in production.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, APIs, data modeling, and concurrency.
• Expertise in NoSQL (MongoDB) data modeling, indexing, and query optimization.
• Ability to translate ambiguous, high-impact problems into clear technical plans.
• Strong communication skills for explaining technical decisions to diverse stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience building LLM-powered systems (prompt iteration, tool calling, agent orchestration).
• Experience operating high-scale retrieval systems (vector + lexical search).
• Experience building evaluation frameworks and regression testing for AI.
• Proficiency with AWS CDK and operating production services in AWS.
