Compensation: CA$140,000 – CA$210,000

What you will do
- Build and scale backend systems supporting core product features like Chat, Reviews, and Library.
- Design low-latency, high-reliability search, inference, and orchestration layers for AI features.
- Operate RAG retrieval at scale with production-grade performance and data isolation.
- Own core platform concerns including rate limiting, retries, consistency, and safe degradation.
- Partner with Product and Design to balance latency, accuracy, and reliability.
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident response to improve system stability.
Requirements
- Must be based in Canada
- 5+ years of experience building backend systems in production.
- Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, APIs, data modeling, and concurrency.
- Expertise in NoSQL (MongoDB) data modeling, indexing, and query optimization.
- Ability to translate ambiguous, high-impact problems into clear technical plans.
- Strong communication skills for explaining technical decisions to diverse stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Experience building LLM-powered systems (prompt iteration, tool calling, agent orchestration).
- Experience operating high-scale retrieval systems (vector + lexical search).
- Experience building evaluation frameworks and regression testing for AI.
- Proficiency with AWS CDK and operating production services in AWS.
