What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain features in Ruby on Rails for the payments offering on the BigCommerce platform.
• Ensure production-grade functionality with appropriate test coverage, instrumentation, and documentation.
• Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to post-incident reviews to improve system reliability.
• Solve complex challenges regarding query and performance optimization while adhering to security protocols.
• Collaborate with product and design teams to define feature specifications and delivery timelines.
• Mentor other engineers and perform code reviews to maintain high standards of quality and security.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience with a strong focus on Ruby on Rails.
• Experience building and operating production-grade systems, including debugging live traffic via logs, traces, and metrics.
• Familiarity with observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry, and Lightstep.
• Solid understanding of Domain Driven Design (DDD) principles.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs, particularly for complex payment flows with nuanced state transitions.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience/boot camp.

Nice to have

• Professional experience with PHP and Scala.
