What you will do

• Lead initiatives to produce an industry-leading vector database offering within hirify.globalsearch.
• Build new search features and resolve complex bugs in the Java-based codebase.
• Improve search relevance by implementing novel techniques in vector similarity.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team of engineers on technical design and code reviews.
• Triage and resolve issues from the open-source community.
• Work close to the hardware and operating system to optimize search performance.

Requirements

• Must be based in Canada, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, or the United Kingdom.
• Professional experience with vector similarity, vector databases, and algorithms like HNSW or IVF.
• Strong expertise in core Java, including data structures and concurrency.
• Experience implementing novel techniques in vector similarity on large-scale search platforms.
• Ability to work with high autonomy and lead cross-functional initiatives.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for asynchronous collaboration.

Nice to have

• Prior experience building with hirify.globalsearch.
• Experience with open-source project workflows and CI/CD.
• Background in academic research regarding vector similarity information retrieval.
