TL;DR

Senior Cloud Reliability Engineer (AWS): Improving reliability and scalability of RuneScape's hybrid-cloud platform with an accent on cloud-native adoption and observability. Focus on migrating workloads to AWS, automating operational tasks, and defining SLIs/SLOs to ensure high-performing live services.

Location: Must be based in or be able to relocate to Cambridge, UK. Permanent right to work in the UK is required; no visa sponsorship is provided.

What you will do

  • Partner with game teams to transition services toward cloud-native architectures for better resilience and cost efficiency.
  • Support the migration of workloads from managed VPS environments to the internal cloud platform.
  • Define and implement SLIs, SLOs, and error-budget frameworks to measure service reliability.
  • Design and enhance observability and alerting systems across logs, metrics, and traces.
  • Automate scaling, failover, and deployments while building self-healing mechanisms.
  • Improve Linux-based production systems and develop reusable IaC modules.

Requirements

  • Proven experience owning reliability for large-scale, internet-facing production services.
  • Expertise in AWS services including VPC, EC2, ECS/EKS, ELB, ECR, Route53, KMS, and IAM.
  • Strong capability in cloud-native design and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) delivery.
  • Practical experience with incident response, root cause analysis, and resilient system design.
  • Production experience with Debian-based Linux environments and VM fleet management.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization, CI/CD, and scripting in Python or Java.
