User Interface / User Experience Designer

TL;DR

User Interface / User Experience Designer: Shapes how mission analysts experience analytic products including dashboards, internal tools, and case-management interfaces with an accent on user research, interaction and visual design, and accessibility. Focus on designing effective visualizations of complex data, developing UI standards, and ensuring Section 508 compliance.

What you will do

• Lead user research with analysts and stakeholders through interviews, contextual inquiry, and usability testing.
• Translate research into user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
• Develop UI standards, design tokens, and component libraries for consistency.
• Ensure Section 508 compliance in color contrast, keyboard navigation, screen readers, and data visualizations.
• Partner with data scientists to design visualizations for analytic and decision-support dashboards.
• Participate in software lifecycle to meet operational requirements and conduct accessibility testing.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Design, Fine Arts, UI Design, HCI, or related.
• 2+ years of UI/UX design experience.
• Portfolio showing end-to-end design work: research, ideation, prototyping, testing, shipped products.
• Working knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG accessibility standards.
• Strong written and visual communication skills.
• U.S. Citizenship required; must possess or pass five-year federal background investigation prior to start.

Nice to have

• Experience designing data-rich apps, analytic dashboards, or case-management tools.
• Familiarity with U.S. Web Design System (USWDS).
• Front-end skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React) for prototyping.
• Experience with screen-reader and accessibility tools (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, axe, WAVE, ANDI).
• Experience in federal or regulated environments.
