Principal Engineer

TL;DR

Principal Engineer (Angular/React Native): Lead the technical direction and ownership of core member-facing platforms including web application, mobile app, and AI-driven chat features with an accent on scalable front-end architecture, cross-platform integration, and AI capabilities. Focus on defining technical standards, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with backend teams on secure, reliable solutions.

Location: Hybrid - at least 3 days/week in Vancouver, BC, Canada

What you will do

• Lead development and end-to-end ownership of member-facing web, mobile, and AI chatbot experiences.
• Define and maintain technical standards for front-end architecture, performance, accessibility, and maintainability.
• Drive reusable business logic, design consistency, and seamless cross-platform experiences between web and mobile.
• Collaborate with .NET/C# backend and Azure teams to deliver scalable, observable solutions.
• Shape AI-enabled chat and support features to improve member navigation and engagement.
• Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and guide complex implementation decisions.

Requirements

• Extensive software engineering experience, with 2+ years at Staff, Principal, or equivalent leadership level in product environments.
• Deep expertise in TypeScript, React, modern front-end architecture, and ability to work with Angular.
• Proven experience building and supporting production React Native applications.
• Strong fluency partnering with .NET/C# backend teams and Microsoft Azure solutions.
• Hands-on with Tailwind CSS/NativeWind, reusable components, and high-quality UX implementation.
• Excellent communication to influence engineering, product, design, and business stakeholders.
• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience building or integrating AI/LLM features like chat, guided workflows, or search.
• Product-minded approach understanding member and business impact.
• Ability to balance strategy, hands-on solving, and delivery.
