Software Developer Specialist (Disaster Recovery Governance)

TL;DR

Software Developer Specialist (AWS/Disaster Recovery): Designing and implementing disaster recovery solutions and governance frameworks to ensure system resilience across the organization with an accent on failover strategies and automation. Location: Hybrid (at least 3 days a week in-office) in St. John's or Toronto, Canada

What you will do

• Design and implement disaster recovery solutions and failover strategies across various services and platforms.
• Develop disaster recovery governance frameworks to establish enterprise-wide standards and processes.
• Build automation and tooling to support recovery testing, failover execution, and environment readiness.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to map system dependencies and develop recovery strategies.
• Execute and validate disaster recovery tests and simulations, contributing to identified improvements.
• Maintain detailed recovery procedures, runbooks, and audit documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience designing and supporting distributed systems with a focus on resiliency patterns.
• Strong understanding of disaster recovery principles, including RTO/RPO and failover strategies.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud environments across infrastructure, application, and data layers.
• Experience building automation for reliability, testing, or operational workflows.
• Must be based in or able to work from St. John's or Toronto, Canada.

Nice to have

• Experience with resilience “game day” exercises and fault-injection experiments.
• Familiarity with high-availability architectures in regulated or globally distributed environments.
• Development experience in Java or Python.
