Senior Connectivity Engineer (IoT)

TL;DR

Senior Connectivity Engineer (IoT/Networking): Building and automating the connectivity layer for a global robot fleet with an accent on mesh VPN, industrial routing, and cellular connectivity. Focus on developing internal tooling in Go and Python to replace manual network configurations and ensuring fleet-wide observability.

Location: Hybrid (Wallingford, Oxfordshire). Approximately once every 4 weeks on site.

What you will do

• Own and evolve the fleet connectivity stack (mesh VPN, routers, Wi-Fi, cellular) using a tooling-first, automation-led approach.
• Develop internal tooling and self-serve workflows for router configuration, validation, and fleet health checks.
• Operate the mesh VPN layer (WireGuard/Tailscale) utilizing access-as-code and policy patterns.
• Implement fleet-wide connectivity observability, including monitoring, alerting, and actionable reporting.
• Automate cellular/SIM lifecycle management, including provisioning and carrier-level reporting.
• Partner with deployment and customer-facing teams to convert field issues into durable tooling and documentation.

Requirements

• Strong networking fundamentals (routing, NAT, firewalls, DNS, VPNs, IPv4/IPv6).
• Deep experience with the Linux networking stack (interfaces, routing tables, MTU/PMTUD, nftables/iptables).
• Proficiency in Go and/or Python.
• Experience operating production systems at scale and debugging multi-layer failures.
• Must be based in or able to commute to Wallingford, Oxfordshire for hybrid work.

Nice to have

• Experience in robotics, telematics, connected vehicles, or industrial IoT.
• Experience working in startup or scale-up environments.
• Knowledge of containers, IoT OS, or carrier/router API integrations.
