TL;DR

Software Engineer (Java/Distributed Systems): Building and maintaining an open-source application platform for distributed data services like Cassandra and Kafka with an accent on reliability, scalability, and full lifecycle ownership. Focus on designing infrastructure provisioning, ensuring production stability, and applying DevOps best practices in a multi-cloud environment.

Location: Must be based in Canberra or Melbourne, Australia (hybrid: 3-4 days in office). Must have the right to work in Australia.

What you will do

  • Build, maintain, and enhance an open-source application platform for provisioning and operating distributed servers.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of the development lifecycle, from requirements and design to testing and deployment.
  • Collaborate with development, operations, and product teams to solve complex distributed computing problems.
  • Implement and apply DevOps best practices within a global 24x7 operating environment.

Requirements

  • Tertiary degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science.
  • 2-5 years of commercial experience delivering quality software.
  • Proficiency in Java, SQL, and at least one other modern programming language.
  • Right to work in Australia is required.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, humble approach to teamwork.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Python, TypeScript, Rust, Terraform, Ansible, or Jenkins.
  • Experience working with major cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
