Technical Animator (VFX)

TL;DR

Technical Animator (Maya/Python): Developing character and creature animations for live-action VFX and feature films with an accent on the intersection of art and technical troubleshooting. Focus on optimizing animation tools, implementing rigging techniques, and collaborating on proprietary studio workflows.

Location: Hybrid (Vancouver, Canada). Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

What you will do

• Create character and creature animations for CG feature films and VFX projects, including facial animation and digital doubles.
• Provide technical support and resolve animation-related tickets across various departments.
• Collaborate on show-specific solutions by developing and testing new animation tools and proprietary workflows.
• Manage cameras, staging, and composition while preparing video reference for performance.
• Deliver high-quality work within bid timeframes and participate in professional dailies.

Requirements

• Must be a Canadian Citizen or hold Canadian Permanent Resident status.
• Must be able to work onsite in Vancouver 2-3 days per week.
• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Computer Graphics, Fine Arts, Design, or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong proficiency in Maya’s animation and rigging tools.
• Basic knowledge of Python for scripting and workflow optimization.
• A professional demo reel showcasing animation skills and a general understanding of CG.

Nice to have

• Experience with Motion Capture data.
• Knowledge of Linux, Houdini, and/or Unreal Engine.
