What you will do

  • Own 3D CAD modeling and 2D detailed drawings for custom connectors, overmolds, and electromechanical interfaces.
  • Design housings, contacts, strain reliefs, and sealing features with a focus on mechanical precision and DFM.
  • Create complete manufacturing packages, including GD&T drawings, tolerancing, and assembly instructions.
  • Perform connector power calculations and collaborate with electrical engineers on signal integrity and shielding.
  • Develop and execute validation test plans for mating cycles, vibration, thermal cycling, and environmental exposure.
  • Manage custom connector programs end-to-end, including RFQs, supplier selection, and tooling milestones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in connector design, electromechanical packaging, or interconnect engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or Creo.
  • Demonstrated experience creating manufacturing-ready 2D drawings with proper GD&T.
  • Solid understanding of electrical fundamentals, including current rating, contact resistance, and power dissipation.
  • Hands-on experience in prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting hardware.

Nice to have

  • Background in robotics, defense, medical devices, or aerospace precision systems.
  • Experience with injection molding, insert molding, and overmold design for production.
  • EVT/DVT build support experience in a hardware startup environment.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering, including FMEA and Weibull analysis.
  • Familiarity with PLM tools such as Enovia, Windchill, or Agile.
