What you will do

• Maintain and modernize real-time services on Telephony Engines and architect backend libraries and APIs.
• Build and optimize low-latency media pipelines for voice and video, tuning codecs and RTP flows.
• Investigate and resolve complex production issues across PSTN, WebRTC, and carrier boundaries.
• Run load, failover, and regression tests to validate scalability, resilience, and capacity limits.
• Partner with Tel Cloud, Tel Edge, and AI teams to design end-to-end call flows and integrations.
• Manage Terraform and GKE-backed rollouts and participate in on-call and release rotations.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with production backend systems in SaaS or real-time communications.
• Deep expertise in C/C++ and Python.
• Proficiency in coding with AI agents to accelerate development.
• Experience or strong interest in SIP, WebRTC, RTP/RTCP, and media codec negotiation.
• Deep understanding of reliability engineering and building observability into services.
• Must be based in Vancouver or Kitchener, Canada.

Nice to have

• Experience troubleshooting and improving real-time media quality (e.g., jitter, packet loss, choppy audio).
