What you will do

• Design and own scalable backend services and APIs for complex healthcare workflows.
• Optimize database queries and data models to ensure system performance and reliability at scale.
• Evaluate and implement technical tradeoffs across system design and maintainability.
• Integrate AI tools and agentic coding patterns into backend workflows to add real value.
• Write production-grade, well-tested code while contributing to engineering standards.
• Partner with product and data stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend ownership.
• Deep expertise in Java and/or Python.
• Proven experience with system design and architectural tradeoffs.
• Experience with cloud deployments on AWS (EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Must be based in California.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with data engineering frameworks such as Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, or Dagster.
• Experience building AI agents.
