What you will do

• Lead a multi-disciplinary safety team covering systems, test execution, and risk processes.
• Drive the Driver-Out (DO) gated deployment plan with strategic partners like Lyft and Uber.
• Own the Safety Case Framework for L4 systems (HARA, FTA, FMEA) with a focus on ML-aware analysis.
• Operationalize the Safety Management System (SMS), including risk registers and recall response plans.
• Define safety architecture for future releases, ensuring safety-by-construction and ODD enforcement.
• Manage L4 Japan compliance and regulatory responses.

Requirements

• 8+ years in product or system safety engineering, including 3+ years in L3+ AV or other safety-critical domains (aviation, rail).
• Direct experience authoring safety case work products (HARA, FTA, FMEA) for shipping vehicles.
• Proven track record of managing engineers, including managing managers or senior ICs.
• Hands-on contribution to at least one driverless or driver-out commercial deployment.
• Experience working with regulators such as NHTSA, FMCSA, or international equivalents (MLIT).
• Working knowledge of ML-driven safety standards (ISO 21448 SOTIF, ISO 8800) and ISO 26262.

Nice to have

• Prior experience at an AV or AI-driving company with an end-to-end learned autonomy stack.
• Experience contributing to published safety assurance frameworks.
• Familiarity with safety-cybersecurity intersection (ISO/SAE 21434).
